Here are selected answers to the question,
"What made you decide to participate in Urban Bird Studies or Celebrate Urban Birds? "

It is through the study of nature that my "English for Speakers of Other Languages" students unwittingly (and with great joy) perfect their English skills. --Silver Spring, Maryland
He puesto mucha ilusión.
Los Changos ya no me parecen tan feos. (The grackles don't seem so ugly anymore.) --San Juan, Puerto Rico
Former "rural" birds are becoming a fixture of urban environments--what's happening here? Let's figure it out. --Evanston, Illinois
Our center has one solid wall of windows from which we can observe all the birds. I have the patient chairs turned so they can enjoy this while receiving chemotherapy. --Lakewood, Colorado
Many beautiful birds come to drink and bathe in the small stream which flows by my grandson's home. We all wonder just what they are. --Waikapu, Maui, Hawaii
My birding daughter made me sign up, but I enjoy birds, too. We watch hummingbirds in my backyard and have quite a few passerines (my daughter gave me that word). --Huntington, West Virginia
--Montevideo, Uruguay
My five-year-old son is absolutely fascinated by birds. He has created an interest in birds for the whole family. --Ferndale, Michigan
It is a great set up that allows common citizens to participate in scientific programs. It will encourage understanding of scientific methods and interest in birds. --Panama City, Panama
I require my students (college education majors) to look at the Urban Bird Studies web site and select a project to follow during the semester. Now I am interested in doing it myself. --Palm Coast, Florida
My grandmother is very interested in birds and wants us to learn more about birdwatching together. I am only 8 1/2 years old and she thinks this would be an interesting hobby for us to enjoy together. --Cumming, Georgia
I have found citizen science both enriching and helpful in attracting friends and neighbours in understanding the world around us. --Ottawa, Ontario
I want my children to appreciate what most people don't even notice. --Newport, Rhode Island
My granddaughters will be visiting this week and I am interested in birds. --Lewiston, Idaho
Pigeons have begun to monopolize my bird feeders. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! --Chicago, Illinois
My children and I have always had a healthy interest in birds. I look forward to expanding our knowledge of our area and the birds that share it with us! --Surrey, British Columbia

THE FIRST DATA AND PHOTOS ARRIVE!!
Congratulations to Cindy F. in Sandown, New Hampshire for sending us the first Celebration data we've received!
Thanks to Joan R. in Chicago, Illinois, Charlotte H. in Mitchell, Nebraska, and Christine B. in Galveston, Texas for the data we received on July 15th! We are thrilled to be receiving so much data.
On July 16th, data began pouring in--too much to name each participant! Please don't forget to send us your photos, drawings, poems, games, activities, comments, and anything else that helped you participate in Celebrate Urban Birds!
I have just witnessed a pigeon lay an egg. She layed it on my back deck next to my sliding glass door.  She layed it right on the ground with no nesting material at all! --Jonathan, Las Vegas, Nevada
