Learn About Birds: 10 Easy Ways to Get Started

1. Go for a bird walk. See what birds you find, talk about the habitat.

2. Print coloring book pages and have kids color the birds using the bird poster or a field guide.

3. Become a "Species Specialist."  Students could be responsible for one species and become the expert on that bird.

4. Read a book. Make connections to local and/or international issues.

5. Set up a feeder area. Make your own feeders and learn to identify the birds they attract.

6. Study pigeons. Count the numbers and color types in a local flock of pigeons.

7. Put up a nestbox in your schoolyard or nearby backyard/natural area. (This links to The Birdhouse Network web site.)

8. Read the Classroom Birdscope Webzine online student journal. (Links to Classroom Birdscope web site.)

9. Write a story or poem.

10. Conduct your own research using our online bird databases.
