  Interdisciplinary Connections

One of the best illustrations of interdisciplinary applications of Citizen Science projects is the student journal, Classroom Birdscope. Visit the online Classroom Birdscope webzine.

In addition, here is a list of some interdisciplinary connections educators have made while using Citizen Science with their students/groups.

Math – graphing data, creating plans for building bird houses or feeders, counting birds, measuring count areas, data analyses (mean, average etc.)

Science – ecology, classification, natural history

Social Studies – natural history reports, mapping, current events (birds in the news), bird-related careers, interdependence of birds and humans (especially in city areas)

Language Arts – poetry, fiction stories, journaling, bird literature, bird interviews, research papers

Art – drawings, cartoons, sculpture, paper maché, building nests, bird houses and feeders.

Music – bird sounds

Technology – using the web site to enter data, navigating the web for reference material.
