New Jersey Trip

Travel to premiere East Coast birding locations for the beginning of spring migration!

 

On May 8 and 9, we'll be taking a bus trip to the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville, NJ. We'll also travel to the Cape May area to view shorebirds and visit several other NJ birding hotspots. To join us, just download the sign-up form by clicking HERE. (NOTE: You'll need Acrobat Reader

Trip Itinerary

Saturday, May 8
Sunday, May 9
5:30 AM Meet at CLO Parking Lot 5:30 AM OPTIONAL early bird walk on the beach
6:00 AM Load bus and depart for NJ (we plan to stop at the Hickory Run rest stop along the PA Turnpike for breakfast, so bring money) 7:00 AM Breakfast at the Red Oak Restaurant
12:30 PM Arrive at Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR and have a picnic lunch (Bring a non-perishable bag lunch/drink) 8:00 AM Depart the motel
1:30-4:30 PM Birdwatching on the trails of Forsythe (Brigantine) NWR 8:30-10:00 AM Arrive at Higbee Beach for morning birdwatching
5:00 PM Dinner at Yesterday's Restaurant (casual dress, bring money for your meal) 10:30AM-12:00 PM Birdwatching and sightseeing at Cape May Point, followed by a picnic lunch (provided)
8:30 PM Arrive at the Landmark Motel, Wildwood, NJ, and then check into our rooms (followed by OPTIONAL birding on the boardwalk) 1:30-3:30 PM Afternoon birding at Belleplain State Forest
3:30 PM Bus departs for Ithaca (we plan to stop at the Allentown rest stop along the PA Turnpike for dinner, so bring money - arrive back at CLO Parking Lot approx. 10:00pm)


Trip sign-ups are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, however, please note that sign-up requests from students who are currently enrolled in Spring Field Ornithology (Field Trips AND Lectures sections) will be honored before sign-up requests from the general public can be accepted.

Please Bring:
A bag lunch and a drink for Saturday, money for dinner on Saturday AND Sunday, binoculars (and/or spotting scope - if you have one), field guide, sunscreen, water bottle, and bug repellent

Attire:
Casual. Light-colored clothing (long pants) and socks, and sun hats. We recommend monitoring the weather forecast—you may need to bring rain gear and/or a windbreaker!!

What is included in the trip price:
Top-notch field trip leaders, round-trip bus fare, one (double occupancy) motel room, and any complimentary meals (as specified) above. Each motel room has two double beds, so you may want to decide who you would like to room with in advance. If a private motel room is desired, there will be an additional fee. Please contact the SFO Course Coordinator for more information.
