Dean Hawthorne listening for whales in Hawaii

I am the lead of the Raven project, which includes Raven Pro, Raven Lite, and Raven Exhibit. I received my B.S. in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. I received my Ph.D. in physics from Cornell University where I studied electromagnetic phenomena in various exotic materials at very low temperatures. My current areas of research are acoustic signal processing and source localization. Before joining the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, I worked as a senior software engineer for the Advanced Digital Information Corporation where I developed software for management of robotic computer tape libraries. I am a member of IEEE, the American Physical Society, and the Arms Control Association.
