I volunteer at the Bioacoustics Research Program as a Lab associate. I am a marine biologist with broad interests in acoustic behavior of marine mammals and acoustic communication in other animal species. I completed my Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution at Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), Brazil. My Ph.D. research investigated intraspecific variation in Guiana dolphin whistles and described the burst-pulse sounds of this species. In addition, I developed part of my Ph.D. research at the Scripps Whale Acoustic Lab at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where I learned high-frequency sound analysis techniques and identified the first consistent characterization of burst pulses of Guiana dolphin. I have over eight years of field research experience studying the ecology and acoustic behavior of dolphins. As a long-time member of the Aquatic Mammals and Bioindicators Laboratory (MAQUA) research team at UERJ, I contributed to several cetacean research and environmental education projects. In addition, I worked as an environmental consultant, performing acoustic monitoring in coastal areas of southern and southeastern Brazil.
