Soundscapes and acoustic habitats are complex and comprised of a variety of biological, geophysical, and anthropogenic acoustic signals. Much of our research in this area focuses on the assessment of spatiotemporal variability in ambient noise levels and how the various acoustic sources contribute to the overall soundscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are also developing new analysis techniques to assess biodiversity from acoustic recordings. Our hope is that this work will lead to a standardized and reproducible way to rapidly assess ecosystem health such as a “bioacoustic blitz.” If you are local to Ithaca, New York, and interested in supporting this specific work by contributing visual and aural bird observations via eBird<\/a>, please consider participating in our avicaching competition<\/a>.
