CANCELLED: Science of Seduction

March 12 at 5:30 pm7:30 pm

Given the recent public health concerns regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19), and following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health, Cornell University has implemented enhanced policies for visitors to campus, and large and non-essential events.

Effective now, Cornell is canceling all large, non-essential events or work-related gatherings where a significant number of participants are expected to travel to or from the region. “Nonessential” means anything unrelated to educational instruction or food service. Unfortunately, this includes the Science of Seduction event at the Cornell Lab.

We understand that such cancellations are disruptive and disappointing, but it is essential that we prioritize both the health and safety of our community as well as our alumni, friends, and visitors to the Lab of Ornithology.

Think you know everything about the birds and the bees? Think again! Come to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology to hear the latest buzz from researchers who study the Science of Seduction.

Learn how smart is the new sexy (at least for chickadees), how color is the language of love for chameleons, and hear how birds attract a mate using everything from whispered sweet nothings to screaming power ballads.

Join us for the Science of Seduction event on Thursday, March 12, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Grab a plate of appetizers, wet your whistle at the cash bar, and prepare to be wooed by the wild world of seduction in the animal kingdom. Mingle with scientists who will be stationed around the Visitors Center with interesting specimens, mesmerizing media, and even a “fun with fairywrens” game. Learn about the diverse array of animal courtship strategies–all of which will be infused with natural history and first-hand accounts from field biologists.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with introductory remarks at 5:45 p.m. We’ll be raffling off prizes at 6:30 p.m. Stick around and see if you win a private behind-the-scenes tour of the Cornell University Museum of Vertebrates and other fun prizes.

This is an adult-only event, you must be 21 and over. No ticket sales at the door.

Event is hosted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the Cornell University Museum of Vertebrates.
