Welcome to Birdwatching— Field Workshop Series
Join the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for an exciting new series of field experiences this spring. In our brand-new in-person workshop series Welcome to Birdwatching, Lab of Ornithology walk leaders will guide you through all the tools, tips, and techniques you’ll need to unlock the joy of watching birds.
You’ll learn about your local birds while also building the skills and confidence to continue your journey of bird appreciation long after the workshop series ends. Together, we’ll explore bird identification strategies, behaviors, habitat choices and the wonders of migration, courtship, and nesting. Walks will take place at select birding hotspots in the Ithaca area that showcase everything from year-round residents like titmice, cardinals, and hawks to dynamic spring migrants like warblers, tanagers, and orioles.
The full series of six walks will provide a comprehensive experience, but just a few or even a single walk will leave beginner bird enthusiasts feeling more equipped to understand which birds to look for where, and how to identify them and interpret their behavior.
Included in the price of your field workshop registration is free enrollment in the Lab’s upcoming course Joy of Birdwatching, a $39.99 value. This online, self-paced course will enhance and reinforce skills showcased on these walks.
Walks will take place from 7am to 12pm every Saturday morning starting April 4th through May 9th. After meeting at the Lab of Ornithology walks will continue at locations in the Ithaca area selected and confirmed each week by Lab experts based on migration patterns and weather. All participants will meet at the Lab of Ornithology prior to heading to the walk location. Space is limited!
