Hana Gabrielle Bidon

Marketing Data Analyst

I’m the Marketing Data Analyst at the Lab of Ornithology. This means that I analyze data from the Cornell Lab’s marketing email campaigns and websites using tools like Google Analytics, Power BI, R, and Python. These findings are used to improve the email campaigns for the Lab’s products and services, such as Merlin and eBird.

Before coming to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, I worked at Wells Fargo as a technology business systems associate involved in project management. I feel excited transitioning to my new job at Cornell.

As an undergraduate at Cornell, I originally intended on majoring in mechanical engineering, but decided not to after taking my first—and last—physics class. I preferred my programming classes, but wanted a major that included technical subjects from statistics and math, plus the social sciences and humanities. That’s when I decided to major in Information Science at the Cornell Engineering College, and minored in Science and Technology Studies midway through my junior year.

My research experiences at Cornell University and the University of Iowa helped me acquire skills in data science, and I was all set to have a job in that field. Yet, I ended up working as a user accessibility specialist and project manager at Wells Fargo. Though I didn’t end up with a data-related role coming out of college (during the COVID-19 pandemic), I successfully pivoted towards my current role with my research experiences and by gaining a Science Communication certificate at the University of California San Diego Division of Extended Studies.

Beyond the Lab

In my spare time, I love to travel, especially solo travelling. I’ve been on three overseas solo trips so far. My first solo trip was in the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls, where I traveled to Canada for the first time alone as an adult and took pictures of the Niagara Falls. I also met up with a friend at downtown Toronto and that was my first time meeting up an online friend in real life. He’s super kind and showed me cool places around downtown Toronto.

My second solo trip was in Estonia and Finland. I would definitely say that Tallinn, Estonia, is my favorite place so far. The people can appear standoffish and cold, but are actually so genuine and kind. Finland was nice as well, although it was pouring rain when I first arrived in Helsinki, Finland.

My third solo trip was in France, specifically in Paris and Lille. I got the opportunity to speak a decent amount of French over there and the French people were kind to me since I spoke French at least to a conversational level and “dressed” in a chic way. Paris is one of the fashion capitals of the world, so I wanted to appear fashionable.

Other than traveling, I love dancing, rock climbing, reading, writing, volunteering, and coding. I read books in English and French, and will start my first book in German very soon.
