K-12 Education

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s K-12 Education program provides innovative resources that build science skills while inspiring young people to connect to local habitats, explore biodiversity, and engage in participatory science projects through inquiry-based science curriculum and activities. It engages kids in scientific study and real data collection through the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s participatory science projects. If your land trust has an education or outreach program, you may be interested in exploring the K-12 Education program’s resources and professional development opportunities.
What can the K-12 Education program offer land trusts?
The K-12 Education program provides educators with free resources for learners of all grade levels, along with curriculum and activity kits that cost a minimal fee. These resources encourage kids to:
- Make observations and answer their own questions about nature using the scientific process
- Spend time outdoors, connecting with nature by focusing on the fascinating sights, sounds, and behaviors of birds
- Understand the real-world importance of the data they collect and enter online, which helps scientists understand and conserve birds
The program offers a variety of resources for all types of educators no matter the setting. For a full list of offerings, visit the K-12 education website.
The K-12 Education team is happy to assist land trust staff in taking full advantage of educational materials and the Lab’s participatory science projects as they help youth spark curiosity, use tools to make scientific discoveries, and connect to their local resources. The K-12 Education program works to support the use of their resources through online communities, professional development workshops, and free webinars.
