My Ph.D. research focuses on the application of slow-moving autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) as platforms for passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) of marine mammals. Recent advances in AUV, including oceanographic gliders and floats, and PAM technologies have provided new opportunities for scientists to conduct PAM surveys with high spatio-temporal resolution. I am comparing the performance of these new systems to traditional methods, e.g., bottom-moored PAM systems. I am also working on the development of new methods to estimate marine mammal densities from acoustic data collected by these instruments.

I completed my M.S. at Oregon State University in 2015, where I developed and tested an animal-borne playback tag on northern elephant seals.
