Request For Proposals: Bioacoustics Equipment and Training (BEAT) Program Year 3 for Indonesia and Malaysia

The Bioacoustics Equipment and Training (BEAT) Program is back for its third year, and we’re inviting passionate conservationists, researchers, and practitioners from across Indonesia and Malaysia to be part of this growing community.

The BEAT Program, is co-organized by 20 incredible bioacoustics practitioners from the region, many of them alumni of the BEAT program, in partnership with the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. BEATequips teams with tools, training, and mentorship to design and implement conservation-oriented bioacoustic monitoring projects in Indonesia or Malaysia. Projects are expected to contribute new data that can be used to develop or support biodiversity and habitat conservation efforts in the region.

Who Can Apply?

We welcome teams of researchers, conservationists, and practitioners from diverse backgrounds, no prior experience with bioacoustics required.

To be eligible:

  • The team must be led by and at least half composed of citizens or permanent residents of Indonesia or Malaysia.
  • The project site must be located in Indonesia or Malaysia.
  • At least one member must have moderate English proficiency.
  • Teams must provide relevant permits or letters of support if the project site is in a restricted area.
  • At least one member should be able to present project outcomes at the 2027 Symposium for Indonesia Malaysia Bioacoustics.
