Field Operation

The Bioacoustics Research Program (BRP) is a unit within the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University.  Established by Dr. Christopher W. Clark, and currently led by Dr. Holger Klinck, BRP develops and utilizes specialized hardware and software systems that enable BRP scientists and collaborators to study animal vocalizations and to monitor threatened and endangered wildlife populations and their habitats.

BRP has extensive experience with marine acoustic data collection, employing a fleet of internally designed and developed marine autonomous acoustic recording units (MARU) and real time acoustic buoys in applications worldwide. Onboard the R/V Jaeger, BRP’s Field Operation Team builds, deploys, recovers, and refurbishes MARUs primarily on the East Coast of the United States. The team also works with collaborating scientists around the world. In 2016, BRP deployed more than 100 MARUs.
