Heather “Hopper” Galloway

Hello! I am a Bermudian ecologist beginning my PhD in the K. Lisa Yang Centre for Conservation Bioacoustics. My research is on Bermuda’s coral reef fishes, where I am using bioacoustics to monitor the reefs with the aim to improve conservation management strategies. I am currently assessing the acoustic behaviours of red hind in a marine protected area in Bermuda, and I am excited to see what research rabbit holes I fall down during my time here at Cornell.
Before Cornell, my Master’s thesis project was a comparison of the acoustic activity of shallow coral reef sites in Bermuda. I also spent two field seasons in California with the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Cornell University on the spotted owl passive acoustic monitoring project.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading and various fibre arts, and I’m always down for a game or a discussion of Star Trek!
