Matthias Bieber
I am a member of the population ecology group at the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics and specifically I manage the Southern California Spotted Owl acoustic monitoring project.
Birds are my passion, and I bring a diverse background in avian monitoring and ecological research with non-profit, government, and academic institutions. Most recently I coordinated passive acoustic monitoring for spotted owls in the Sierra Nevada out of the University of Wisconsin. Prior to that, my wildlife career has taken from marsh bird surveys and wildlife surveys for species of concern across the Canadian Prairies and Parkland regions, to population monitoring of riparian songbirds and passerine migration monitoring in south-central British Columbia as well as ecotoxicology research with hummingbirds in BC’s Lower Mainland. More broadly my research interests include migration ecology, avian habitat associations, and forest and wetland ecology.
