The Bioacoustics Research Program launched the Elephant Listening Project (ELP) in 1999 to monitor the status and activities of African forest elephants.
- Guatemala Bird Fair
Because Guatemala is critically important for migratory bird species that winter and pass through the region each year, the Lab works with a diverse set of Guatemalan partners – from guides to community-based monitors to environmental educators –to conserve the region’s spectacular birds and their habitats.

Almost ten years ago, the Lab launched the Multimedia Productions program with a clear mandate: combine the most compelling documentary coverage of birds with the latest science to inform critical conservation issues with regional stakeholders while raising the regard for birdlife all over the world.

The Lab has begun to function as a major center for the research and application of “Big Data” in the ecological and conservation sciences.

The Lab of Ornithology’s Visitor Center sees more than 65,000 visitors every year, welcoming people from all over the world who represent a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and interests.
- Bird Cams 2017
In the past year, our live Bird Cams have enabled 1.2 million people around the world to watch birds up close, 24 hours a day. We streamed from 14 locations.
- Celebrate Urban Birds 2017
Celebrate Urban Birds hosts hundreds of low-income youth and community leaders working in underserved neighborhoods every year. Selected youth, educators, and community advocates receive full scholarships to travel and attend 3-day workshops at the Cornell Lab.
