Email Signature Best Practices

Logos and graphics in email signatures are not accessible and rendering logos correctly across multiple email platforms is challenging. Hence, Cornell University recommends against using logos in email signatures. For consistency across email communications, please follow these Cornell Lab of Ornithology email signature best practices:

  • No icons or other graphic elements due to web accessibility issues
  • Use only type in signatures without images or attachments for a clean, concise, and accessible presentation
  • May include links to the Lab’s social media accounts and websites
  • No personal quotes
  • Link to the Cornell land acknowledgment optional
  • Hybrid schedule optional
  • Pronouns optional
  • Degree credentials optional
  • Phone number optional
