State of the Birds 2025
The State of the Birds 2025 Report is a call for action, highlighting North American species that need conservation attention to reverse population declines and efforts that are making a difference for birds across the country. About a third of all American bird species are identified as Tipping Point species, having lost more than 50% of their populations in the last 50 years. These 112 species require immediate measures to curb declines.

The report provides information on groups of bird species by habitat type, such as grassland birds and shorebirds, and also offers data on the social and economic impacts of birding. With more than a third of the adult U.S. population identifying as birders, the report suggests bird conservation is an issue that can appeal to Americans across the political spectrum.
Published by the U.S. Committee of the North American Bird Conservation Initiative, a coalition of scientific and conservation organizations, the report presents a status assessment of the health of bird populations in the U.S., pointing toward actions that we can all take to communicate the urgency of the situation and help bend the curve for bird populations in our communities.
