Derek Jaskula

Field Research Specialist & First Mate

I work alongside captain Fred Channell as his first mate and captain-in-training on the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics research vessel, the R/V Jaeger.

I spend a lot of my time in the field deploying and recovering scientific equipment that collects marine wildlife acoustic data for our program’s mission: collecting and interpreting sounds in nature by developing and applying innovative conservation technologies across ecologically relevant scales to inspire and inform conservation of wildlife and habitats.
