Within the immense rainforests of the tropical islands of Papua New Guinea live some of the most stunning and exotic birds ever known—the birds-of-paradise. While the shocking forms and dazzling beauty of the birds-of-paradise are easy to focus on, they have much more to offer us: these birds are essentially living textbooks on the biological phenomena of adaptation through sexual selection.
