Students from around the country love going outside and watching birds. Then they get curious and start asking questions about what they are seeing. Those questions turn into research projects and innovative studies that the students design themselves. We invite you and your students to be inspired by the results of this scientific exploration in our beautifully illustrated magazine!
- Do Black-capped Chickadees prefer a certain time of day to visit?
- Do hummingbirds prefer feeders up high or feeders down low?
- The frugal backyard birder: maximizing variety and minimizing cost
Our annual publication, written by and for students, is also beautifully illustrated by K-12 students. We think you’ll be amazed at their great work!

We are in the process of re-imagining how students can share their scientific explorations with others. Therefore, our next edition will be retrospective and in 2022 we will be rolling out a new way for students to share their work.
You can still use our inquiry-based curriculum, Investigating Evidence, to help you guide students through the entire science process, all while meeting science standards. Want more help exploring the process of inquiry and scientific investigation with your students? Learn more with our self-paced online course, Inspiring Investigations through Citizen Science.
