Explore Indoors

    Observatory

    Take it all in—the view of Sapsucker Woods Pond, the action at the Feeder Garden, and start to plan your route.

    Check out the sightings board on the left side of the “Globe Wall” to preview what has been seen in Sapsucker Woods recently. Add your own sightings, or move the globe around to see new sightings pop up in real time.

    Bird Discovery Lab

    A feast for the senses. Explore some of the things that make birds and nature unique and inspiring. Don’t forget to open the drawers throughout the space to view stunning specimens that tell important conservation stories.

    Prepare to spend plenty of time exploring 143 bird and nature sounds on the Sound Table. Then, test yourself with one of the quizzes to see how well you can visualize sound.

    Theater

    Films from the Lab’s Conservation Media department play on a continuous loop. Come on in anytime and stay for as long as you’d like. Current films feature favorite species like loons and the birds-of-paradise.

    Auditorium

    This space provides a state-of-the-art audiovisual system that can be used for hybrid meetings. It also showcases a beautiful art exhibition of renowned wildlife artist and Ithaca native Louis Agassiz Fuertes.

    Note: this space is available to book for meetings and events, and may be in use during your visit.

Upstairs: Art Abounds

  • Take in the only permanent exhibition of Charley Harper’s whimsical work.
  • Enjoy the best view in the house of Jane Kim’s ground-breaking mural, “From So Simple a Beginning.”
  • Experience the surround-sound art of Maya Lin.

Explore unique spaces filled with art, exhibits, films, and fascinating insights into birds and conservation.

Outdoors

Enjoy nearly six miles of trails situated within a variety of habitats. Stop inside to borrow binoculars and get a tutorial on the Merlin Bird ID app before your time on the trails.
