New physics and engineering education resources

The free Build-a-Bird app allows kids (or the kid at heart) to create and fly their own birds in order to learn about adaptions to different habitats and flight styles. Available for both Android and iOS, the app uses sounds and videos from the Macaulay Library.
Explore a Sea of Sound! New high school lessons and multimedia resources dive into the complex world of human- and animal-created sound in the ocean. A streaming video describes how scientists from the Bioacoustics Research Program are listening for whales in order to protect them from ship strikes.
ancomm-book Check out the latest edition of a college-level text on the physics of animal communication, published by Cornell professors Jack Bradbury and Sandy Vehrencamp. The companion website has useful information about how animals make sound and how sound and light waves travel.
